Achille Castiglioni - Floor Lamp

Achille Castigloni (1918-2002)

Arco Floor Lamp, 1969

marble,stainless steel,aluminum

86.6" - 84.6" W, 91.3 H
Shade: 12.6" Diameter
Base: 9.4 W, 21.7" H

I think this lamp reflects the same style as the Marianne Brandt teapot because of the simple geometric shapes and simple design.

The teapot uses an off center lid to maintain balance of the teapot while pouring tea.  This lamp uses the marble base as the counter weight to keep it upright.  The basic shape of the teapots body is close to the shape of the shade of this lamp.

Marianne Brandt: Tea Infuser & Strainer

Tea infuser and strainer, ca. 1924
Marianne Brandt (German, 1893–1983)
Silver and ebony; H. 2 7/8 in. (7.3 cm)

Marianne Brandt was a sculptor and painter and was the first women to join the Bauhaus Metal Workshop in 1924.  She studied under artist Lazlo Moholy-Nagy and was influenced by basic geometric forms.

Brandt designed this teapot while she was a student of the Bauhaus in 1924.  The materials used were brass, silver and ebony.  Brandt stuck with the Bauhaus belief of function over form by using basic geometric shapes.  The teapots design features a nondrip spout, built in steamer, off center lid for balance and heat resistant ebony handles. Although this teapot has the aesthetics of being industrial made Brandt made it completely by hand.
